The phase of the peak and the flame

Fire

huǒ · south · summer · the virtue 禮 lǐ, propriety

Fire is the phase that flames and rises, 炎上 (yán shàng). It is heat at its peak, the noon of the year, brightness that warms a room and shows what was hidden. In Chinese thought Fire is not one thing: it is the blazing sun and a single candle at once. Meet both below.

The centrepiece · 丙 and 丁

The two fires

Every phase has a yang face and a yin face. For Fire they even carry their own names: 丙 the great fire and 丁 the small fire. Tap one.

Where Fire sits on the wheel

Fire never stands alone

Fire is fed by one phase, feeds another, holds a third in check, and is held by a fourth. Follow any thread to that phase.

Up to the wheel, down to your animal

Fire is a thread. Your animal is where it lands.

Fire is one turn of a larger wheel. Step back and watch all five feed and check each other.

Down to your animal

Snake carries yin fire, Horse carries yang fire, and any birth year can add Fire on top. Find yours.

Meaning, not prediction. The Fire material here, including the 丙 and 丁 temperaments and the BaZi and TCM notes, is symbolic character-lore and classical tradition drawn from Chinese metaphysics. It is a lens for reflection, not a claim of fact about anyone's health, fame, or fate. Correspondences vary by lineage. See how Fire lines up across traditions.
