The Moon makes no light of its own. It is a mirror, turning its sunlit half toward you a little more each night, then a little less. Learn to read that rhythm and the moods that once felt random start to keep a schedule you can plan around.

The eight phases
Think of the cycle as a single breath: a dark inhale, a bright exhale. Each phase favours a different kind of action. Plan launches and hard conversations for the waxing half, new toward full, and keep releases, endings, and rest for the waning half, full toward dark.
The moonlit altar
To charge a stone is to refill it, to return it to a clean and intentional state after it has done its work. Moonlight is the gentlest way, and unlike the Sun it takes nothing away. It is safe for every crystal, including the water-sensitive and the light-fragile, which is why it is the method to default to when you are unsure.
Best phase. The full Moon charges for peak power, clarity, and release. The new Moon charges for intention and fresh starts. The full Moon's light is held strong for a day or two on either side, so a cloudy peak is no failure.
Overnight. Set the stones out at dusk and collect them at or before dawn. Cleanse first to empty, then charge to refill, holding an intention as the light pools on them.
The one hard rule. Retrieve them before harsh direct sunlight reaches them. Morning sun fades the colour of amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, and others over time. Moon yes, hard noon no. A clouded morning buys you time; a bright one does not.
Lunar by temperament, these are the ones to set out first.
Moonstone is the Moon's own stone, held to grow stronger in lunar light. Selenite is named for Selene and is self-cleansing. Labradorite sparkles under moonlight and risks no fading there. Clear quartz loves any phase and magnifies whatever intention you set beside it.
Fill a glass vessel, set it under the full Moon overnight, name your purpose as you place it, and retrieve it before strong sun. Use it to cleanse a space, refresh non-porous stones, water plants with intention, or sit beside it for full-moon reflection.
Several stones are unsafe submerged, and a few are genuinely toxic. The elegant workaround is to set the stone beside the jar, not inside it. Selenite charges by proximity to the moonlight, not by contact with the water.
Keep these dry: selenite, malachite, calcite, halite, fluorite, celestite, pyrite, hematite, and labradorite. Reserve in-water stones for the reliably water-safe, like clear quartz, amethyst, and rose quartz.
Your timing this year
Eclipses are amplified new and full moons; they tend to accelerate beginnings and endings. Treat them as hinge points, not emergencies. Each month's full Moon also carries an old agricultural name, a ready-made theme for that cycle's intention.

A simple monthly ritual
The rite needs no special apparatus, only a candle, a journal, and a charged stone. Live a few cycles this way and you notice the thing every Moon-ruled creature eventually learns: you were never moody, you were tidal. And a tide you can read is a tide you can ride.
Write one private intention for the cycle, specific and present-tense, as if already true. Hold a charged moonstone or clear quartz as you write. Keep the seed small enough to actually plant.
Take the one action that scares you a little. Make the hard call, build the thing, move through the first resistance while the light is still climbing.
Let yourself be seen. Ship it, show it, or celebrate it, and feel it fully. Then write down what is finished and, safely, burn or tear the paper to release it.
Withdraw and reflect without guilt. Rest is wisdom in its right phase, not avoidance. Sit still long enough to hear yourself, and prepare the next seed.
A word of honesty
This is a tradition of meaning, not a science of prediction, and nothing here is medical, psychological, or financial advice. Crystals do not cure and moon water does not heal a body. What these practices do well is give a feeling creature a structure to hold: a way to mark a beginning, name a release, and sit still long enough to hear yourself. The phases, the fraction overhead, and the 2026 eclipses are real astronomy, checkable against any almanac. The rest is a lens. Use the lens to see; use your own hands to build.
