陰陽, balance
Yin and Yang in a Space
Two forces that depend on each other. The aim in a room is balance, not the removal of one.
The pair
What leans which way
Yin, 陰, is receptive, still, cool, dark, and soft; yang, 陽, is active, moving, warm, bright, and hard. Neither is good or bad. Qi itself is said to hold both.
By room
Where to lean
Bedrooms lean yin, with softer light, cooler tones, and quiet, keeping one small yang accent so the room is not lifeless. Living rooms, kitchens, entries, and work areas lean yang, with brighter light and more activity. Soften a hard room with textiles and curves; lift a dim room with light and color; break an all-white monotone with one dark accent.
