財位, the wealth area

The Feng Shui Wealth Corner

A symbolic area to nurture a feeling of prosperity and growth, kept tidy and cared for.

Two systems

Southeast or back-left

In compass feng shui, the wealth area, 財位, tied to the trigram Xun, 巽, sits in the southeast sector, found with a compass however the home is turned. In the Black Hat, or BTB, three-door bagua, a modern Western school, it is always the far back-left as you stand in the main doorway looking in. The two methods often point to different corners, so pick one and stay consistent.

Traditional enhancers

A living plant, moving water, purple and green

Once the corner is chosen, tradition suggests gentle, living, or symbolic additions: a healthy plant such as a jade plant or the round-leaved Chinese money plant, 招財, clean moving water like a small fountain, and the colors purple and green through cushions, art, or crystals. A wilting plant or stagnant water is said to work against the intent, so keep anything living well tended.

Symbolic, never a promise

What the corner is and is not

Everything in the wealth corner is symbolic, a traditional gesture toward abundance, not a way to make money appear. Feng shui offers no guarantee of financial results, and real finances depend on work, planning, and circumstances. Treat the corner as a meaningful ritual space, not a shortcut.
