命位 at work
The Feng Shui Office and Desk
As with the bed, the desk is asked to sit in the commanding position.
The desk in command
See the door, wall at your back
Place the desk so you can see the door of the room without sitting directly in line with it, so you notice who arrives without turning around. Keep a solid wall behind your chair, spoken of as the Black Tortoise, 玄武, the mountain that gives backing; where an open back cannot be avoided, a high-backed chair stands in. Avoid sitting with your back to a door or a window.
The bright hall
Open space ahead
While the wall belongs behind you, avoid pushing the desk tight against a close blank wall you face, which is thought to feel like a block; artwork with depth eases it if the layout forces it. Keep the open area in front of the desk, the bright hall, 明堂, clear and tidy, so that opportunity has room to gather before it reaches you.
These are traditional and psychological comfort ideas, not proven productivity rules.
