The still centre of the wheel

Earth

tǔ · the centre · late summer · the virtue 信 xìn, faithfulness

Earth is the phase that permits sowing and reaping, 稼穡 (jià sè). It is stability and nourishing, the pivot every other phase passes through, the ground that holds. Where the other four are the directions and the seasons, Earth is the still centre between them. In Chinese thought Earth is not one thing: it is the immovable mountain and the soft cultivated field at once. Meet both below.

The centrepiece · 戊 and 己

The two earths

Every phase has a yang face and a yin face. For Earth they even carry their own names: 戊 the great earth and 己 the soft earth. Tap one.

Where Earth sits on the wheel

Earth is the hinge

Earth is fed by one phase, feeds another, holds a third in check, and is held by a fourth. As the centre, it steadies the whole cycle. Follow any thread.

Meaning, not prediction. The Earth material here, including the 戊 and 己 temperaments and the BaZi and TCM notes, is symbolic character-lore and classical tradition drawn from Chinese metaphysics. It is a lens for reflection, not a claim of fact about anyone's health, love, or fate. Correspondences vary by lineage. See how Earth lines up across traditions.
