One of the five phases behind your Primal Zodiac Animal
Ox, Dragon, Goat, Dog
Earth is the only phase with four fixed-element animals, not two, because it holds the four seam branches that sit between the seasons: the Ox (丑), the Dragon (辰), the Goat (未), and the Dog (戌).
The Dragon 辰 (chén) and the Dog 戌 (xū) are yang earth; the Ox 丑 (chǒu) and the Goat 未 (wèi) are yin earth. These four branches fall at the transitions between the seasons, the doyo that belongs to Earth the between-seasons pivot, which is why Earth claims them all. They are also the four storehouses of the chart: 辰 stores Water, 戌 stores Fire, 丑 stores Metal, and 未 stores Wood.
Each carries Earth in its own temper: the Ox patient and enduring, the Dragon broad and commanding, the Goat gentle and cultivating, the Dog loyal and guarding. A birth year can also add a rotating Earth on top, as in the Earth Dog or the Earth Dragon. Enter a birth year on the element finder to see both at once.
