A room of Metal · 金
One of the five phases behind your Primal Zodiac Animal
the honest gap
Here is the honest seam, the same one Wood meets. Unlike Fire or Water, Metal has no clean counterpart in the Greek four elements or the Indian five. Wood and Metal are the two phases the other systems simply do not have.
The Greek and Indian systems put Air or Wind and Ether where China puts Wood and Metal. There is no Metal in Aristotle's four, in the Indian pancha mahabhuta, or in the Japanese Godai, which uses Wind and Void instead. Any claim that Metal simply equals Air or Ether is a convenience, not an equivalence.
People sometimes map Metal to Air or Aether because both suggest the refined, the structured, and the airy, and in yoga the Ether tattva sits at Vishuddha, the throat chakra, with the seed sound HAM. It is a useful thinking aid for lining the systems up, but it is an approximation, offered as a bridge and not as a truth. The candour is the point.
