A room of Wood · 木
One of the five phases behind your Primal Zodiac Animal
Tiger and Rabbit
Two of the twelve zodiac animals carry Wood as their fixed element: the Tiger (寅, yín) is yang wood, and the Rabbit (卯, mǎo) is yin wood. A birth year can also add a rotating Wood on top.
The Tiger sits at 寅, the yang face of Wood and the surging new growth of early spring, bold and pioneering. The Rabbit sits at 卯, the yin face of Wood and the tender flourishing of mid-spring, gentle and diplomatic. Their branches also name the spring wood months and the dawn wood hours, 寅 at three to five in the morning and 卯 at five to seven.
Years such as the Wood Tiger and the Wood Rabbit layer the rotating Wood element over the animal's own, which tradition reads as intensifying the animal's wood character. Enter a birth year on the element finder to see both at once.
