The almanac, computed fresh
Every figure on this band is worked out in your browser from today's date, the same arithmetic the old calendars used. Nothing here is random, and no two days read the same.

Every day carries one of the twelve earthly branches, a twelve-day wheel inside the year.

The oracle recasts this line at every dawn from the day animal, the moon, and the season.
Synodic month 29.530588853 days · day branch from the Julian day number · seasons counted from the solar terms. Real arithmetic, shown with its working.
Every reading passes five gates, in order
Not a personality blurb. A structured passage that ends with one practice and one vow.
The Five Gates are the five ordered parts of every Zodi Animal reading: where you stand, what you need soon, the near future, what to watch, and the godly form. This chamber is why the animal is called Primal. The Mirror holds up the older shape beneath the daily self, one gate at a time.
Every animal carries two forms. The Fallen Form, where fear runs the gifts. The Godly Form, the same gifts with the fear metabolized into power. The gates walk you from one toward the other.
Gate I · the honest map
Where you stand now
A present-tense map with no flattery in it. The reading names which form is holding you tonight, the fallen or the godly, and points to the evidence in your own week rather than in the sky.
The mirror before the medicine.
Gate II · the true need
What you need soon
Every animal has one true need and one counterfeit craving that imitates it. This gate separates the two, so the next month feeds the right one instead of the loud one.
Hunger is honest. Appetite lies.
Gate III · three dated moves
How to plan the near future
Three moves with dates on them. One before the new moon, one inside this lunar cycle, one for the season. Each is specific enough to fail, which is exactly what makes it worth keeping.
A plan you cannot break was never a plan.
Gate IV · the watchfire
What to be aware of
Your signature self-sabotage, the reasonable story it tells while it works, and the early warning sign that it has started again. Named once, it loses most of its cover.
The trap only works in the dark.
Gate V · the rise
How you rise to the Godly Form
The godly form in concrete detail, not as a halo but as habits. One keystone fear, one keystone practice, and a single sentence you carry out of the observatory as a vow.
Same claws. Aimed.
Five phases, two motions
五行 is the Chinese cycle of five phases, wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, moving as a cycle that feeds and a cycle that checks. Choose a motion, then touch a phase to read its plate.
Wood feeds fire. Fire makes earth of its ash. Earth bears metal. Metal carries water. Water raises wood.
木
mù · wood
The push of green through frost, the phase of beginnings. Wood feeds fire and is raised by water.

A real chart, read from one birth moment
Know your power years, your work, and where life is heading
八字, the Four Pillars, reads your year, month, day, and hour as one chart, with the Day Master at the centre as the self.
The Day Master at the centre reads your temperament and how you meet the world.
The luck pillars mark the decades that turn. Cast your chart to see yours.
The elements you lacked at birth arrive with time.
A real chart, read as a mirror for reflection, never a prediction. Our calculator matches a professional almanac character for character.
Today's four pillars, recast fresh at midnight Pacific.
Four stones keep every animal
Each of the 144 animals names its own four keeper stones, one for each office: anchor, clarity, courage, and boundary. Not ornaments. Offices. Touch the office that calls you.
Moonlight is safe for every stone. Cleanse at the dark moon, charge at the full, dedicate at the new. Tradition of meaning, never medicine.

The clock your nerves already keep
The synodic month runs 29.53 days from one new moon to the next, and the observatory computes tonight's phase from it. What you see below is tonight's sky, not an illustration.

Power phase · your night to act
One phase of every cycle belongs to your animal, set by its element and polarity. On that night the live Oracle tells you plainly: tonight is your power phase.
Rest phase · your night to be quiet
Opposite it waits the rest phase, the night to go dark on purpose, cleanse your stones, and let the streak sleep. The ledger holds; the balance never fades.
Two skies, held side by side
A bond reading weighs the trines, the secret friends, the clashes, and the harms between two year animals, then the Western elements, and names what comes back, from Deep Recognition to Hard Teacher. Compatibility supports a relationship. It does not make one.
Send your crossing, ask for theirs
The Oracle weighs the trines, the secret friends, the clashes and the harms, then the Western elements, and names honestly what the bond can carry. Testing a bond is a rite the ledger counts, twice a day.
All 144, kept and catalogued
The menagerie holds all 144 Primal Zodiac Animals, one richly kept creature for every crossing of the twelve Sun signs and the twelve year animals. Real zoology first, reading second. Wander the hall until one of them looks back.
You arrived as a Sleeper
The observatory counts every rite. Name an animal, read the gates, keep a stone, return under a new day, and the eye opens a little further.
Zodi Karma is earned by returning. It cannot be bought. Every naming, every kept stone, every pass through a chamber is counted, and the ledger forgets nothing.
Straight answers, before you read on
The poetry is real, and so is the arithmetic. Here is the plain version.
What is a Primal Zodiac Animal?
A Primal Zodiac Animal is the animal assigned to the crossing of a Western Sun sign and a Chinese zodiac year. Twelve Sun signs cross twelve zodiac years to make 144 crossings, and each crossing holds one animal. A Cancer born in the Year of the Snake, for example, is the Chambered Nautilus. Zodi Animal is the name this site gives that animal.
Why are there 144 animals?
Because twelve multiplied by twelve is 144. Twelve Western Sun signs crossed with twelve Chinese zodiac years produce 144 unique combinations, and Zodi Animal assigns one distinct animal to each.
How is my Zodi Animal calculated?
Your birth month and day set your Western Sun sign. Your birth year, measured against the real Lunar New Year date for every year from 1940 to 2032, sets your Chinese zodiac year. The two are crossed on the 144 grid to name your animal. It is free and runs entirely in your browser.
Does Lunar New Year affect the result?
Yes. The Chinese zodiac year changes at Lunar New Year, not on January 1. If you were born in January or early February before that year's Lunar New Year, your Chinese zodiac animal belongs to the previous year, which can change your Zodi Animal. The wheel uses the real Lunar New Year dates from 1940 to 2032.
Is Zodi Animal an ancient system?
The two systems it draws on are traditional: Western Sun-sign astrology and the Chinese zodiac of twelve year animals. The specific pairing of the two into 144 named animals, and the readings built on it, are a modern symbolic framework created by Zodi Animal. It is not an ancient tradition on its own.
Is the result a prediction?
No. Your Zodi Animal is for symbolic reflection and personal exploration, not guaranteed prediction. It makes no medical, scientific, or deterministic claims.
Is my birthday stored when I use the wheel?
No. The wheel computes in your browser and your birthday never leaves the page. If you choose to keep your result, it is remembered only on your own device, and you can recast the wheel at any time to clear it.
