The upside-down float
The Blue Glaucus floats inverted at the water's surface, clinging to the underside of the surface tension film. It swallows an air bubble to maintain buoyancy and keeps its ventral surface — the brighter blue — facing upward.

The two-way camouflage
Its countershading conceals it in two directions simultaneously: the blue dorsal surface (facing up) blends with the ocean's color when seen from above by birds; the silver ventral surface (facing down) blends with the bright sky when seen from below by fish.

The Blue Glaucus feeds on Portuguese Man o' War and stores their unfired nematocysts — stinging cells — in the tips of its finger-like cerata. It selects and concentrates the most potent nematocysts, delivering a sting more dangerous than the Man o' War itself.
